Academy Kids

Academy Kids is our core lesson program at Premier Swim Academy. Although they might not be right for all learners, we firmly believe that Group Swim Lessons offer the correct balance of social opportunity, instructional engagement, and physical development for new and former swimmers. Academy Kids climb through our Premier level system, which builds on the fundamentals of safety and leads to competent and competitive strokes to prepare swimmers for future aquatic settings.

Our level system includes:

Academy 1 – For Brand New Swimmers

This can include the child afraid of getting their face wet, or the eager child who needs to learn basic respect for the water. We will teach them the core competencies for safety and set them up for success in their future learning.

  • Water Comfort and Safety
  • Breath Control
  • Submersions for 3 seconds
  • Front Glides
  • Independent front glide with reaching arms
  • Back floats
  • Front Glide and Roll into a back float for 10 seconds
  • Entries and Exits
  • Jump into the pool and roll into a back float
  • Assisted exit (elbow, elbow, tummy, knee, knee)

Academy 2 – Our “Water Safe” Level

In Academy 2, swimmers learn directional kicking and how to support themselves to always get the breath they need. Upon completion, they will be able to enter and exit aquatic environments and propel themselves to safety.

  • Independent movement across the pool with breath recovery

Academy 3 – The Beginning Of Competitive Technique

In Academy 3, swimmers will learn a perfect side breath for freestyle and the importance of maintaining momentum throughout their breath. They will also learn back to properly perform backstroke kicks in preparation for backstroke.

  • Rhythmic breathing and intro to competitive technique

  • Freestyle Side breathing

Academy 4

Here, swimmers will learn to swim a full lap of freestyle and backstroke. The perfect candidate for Academy 4 must be able to kick perfect flutter kicks, side breath to both sides and perform perfect backstroke kicks.

Academy 5 – For Higher Level Swimmers

In Academy 5, swimmers will learn butterfly and breaststroke kick and begin to work on endurance swimming. The perfect candidate for Academy 5 must be able to swim freestyle with side breathing and must be able to swim backstroke, both independently.

Academy 6

In Academy 6, swimmers put together all 4 competitive strokes to get ready for swim team. The perfect candidate for Academy 6 must be able to proficiently perform breaststroke and butterfly kick and swim independent freestyle and backstroke.
